Plant Pathology is the branch
of agricultural science, biology or botanical science, which basically deals
with 3 things:-
a. Etiology.
b. Resulting losses.
c. Management method of plant
disease.
·
Main objective of Plant
Pathology :-
1.
To study biotic, mesobiotic and
abiotic causes of disorder or disease.
2.
To study the mechanism of
disease development by pathogen.
3.
To study the plant- pathogen
interaction with in the environment.
4.
To develop methods of
management of these disease.
Q. What is Pathogen?
Ans. A pathogen is ususally
defined as a micro-organisms that causes or can cause disease. We have define a
pathogen as a microbe that can cause damage in a host.

Plant pathology is an applied
science concerned primarily with practical solution of disease in agriculture,
horticulture and forestry.
Now we discuss about agents of
plant diseases
Agents of Plant diseases are
two types:-
Abiotic:-factor is a non-living part of an ecosystem that shape its
environment.
The macro-nutrients:- nitrogen(N),
phosphorus(P), potassium(K) etc.
The micro-nutrients:- iron(Fe),
boron(B), chlorine(Cl) etc.
Biotic :-(infectious) diseases are developed owing to microbial
infection. While most biotic plant diseases are caused by fungi (around
70% of them), other types of plant pathogens exist.
